Select One of the Areas on This Interactive Map to Most NDBC stations are located at sites determined by NWS forecast and warning requirements. Some are installed and maintained in areas identified through reimbursable funding agreements with other agencies and private sector institutions. This web site provides a historical inventory of measurements made at each NDBC station. If you were to visit one of these stations, you would see a moored buoy or C-MAN station similar to the ones shown in these photos. A variety of buoy hulls are used depending on the wave climatology and measurement requirements. See NDBC's section on the Moored Buoy Program for a more complete discussion and photos of NDBC hull types. This web site also has photos of the C-MAN stations.
